Case Study - This Liberty

This Liberty was a film by Matt Stokes, commissioned for Hexham Old Gaol by Arts & Heritage as part of the Meeting Point programme. It featured a series of songs specially written by Richard Dawson, drawing from traditional border ballads and each performed in a single take by Richard and four other North east Singers - Trev Gibb, George Unthank, Mary Waterson and Dawn Bothwell.

I followed the cast and crew over two days at four locations including Hexham Abbey and Scotts Gentleman's Hairdresser, Newcastle, documenting the process and taking location portraits of each of the singers. Richard performed his own song in Durham Prison, where my camera was not allowed!
